Aggregates Certification Scheme
TRL's Certification & Assurance certification body provides certification to producers of primary and recycled aggregates. |

Certification & Assurance have recently relaunched its aggregates certification scheme with the new Transport Research Standard, TRS1001:2010 Quality Scheme for Primary and Recycled Unbound Aggregates. This draws upon BS EN 13242:2002+A1:2007, BS EN 13285:2003, and the WRAP Quality Protocol for the production of aggregates from inert waste.
The scheme includes both primary and recycled aggregates. Recycled aggregates have the advantage of providing excellent value for money when compared to virgin material in many regions. However the potential variability of recycled aggregate properties can act as a barrier to their use. Certification can provide confidence to purchasers and specifiers that recycled aggregates of a correct and consistent quality will be provided.
Certified organisations receive a certificate and a listing on the TRL website which can be used to demonstrate conformity to the requirements of the standards to purchasers and specifiers . Purchasers and specifiers can be confident that certified organisations are subject to two rigorous surveillance audits by TRL experts per year.
In addition to an audit of producer's factory production control system, the scheme also allows for a wide scope of recycled aggregate products including Specification for Highway Works:
- Series 500 - Drainage aggregates
- Series 600 - Earthworks aggregates
- Series 800 - Unbound, cement and other hydraulically bound subbase
A list of aggregate producers certified under this scheme may be found here.
