Human Injury and Biomechanics

Our experts are able to analyse the injuries that occurred in an incident, through medical records and photographs, and comment on the specifics of how they were sustained. They also comment on whether these injuries could have been lessened or prevented if appropriate measures had been taken, such as the use of seat belts and helmets.

Human Injury and Biomechanics

Human Injury Biomechanics - TRLTRL is able to use its comprehensive understanding of biomechanics, dummies, impactors and human body modelling, coupled with access to in-depth and national real-world accident databases, to assist in understanding and explaining occupant motion during collisions. Using this approach, TRL can undertake:

  • Injury causation analysis: explaining occupant motion, causes of injuries and occupant seating positions
  • Occupant restraint systems investigations: use and effectiveness of airbags and seatbelts, effect of failure to use a seat belt
  • Vehicle risk assessments: investigating the compliance of vehicles with occupant protection legislation in specialised and modified vehicles
