Visualisation and Simulations
TRL can supplement expert opinions with laser scans and computer simulations of single vehicle dynamics (such as loss of control situations and rollover), articulated vehicle dynamics and multiple vehicle impact dynamics. |

Our computer simulations can include occupant simulation where it is necessary to identify the movements of vehicle occupants during an impact. Such analyses are typically used in cases to identify the driver of a vehicle. TRL uses both the PC Crash and Human Vehicle Environment (HVE 3D) computer analysis software.
In cases involving vehicle dynamics on complex three dimensional road surfaces, TRL employs laser scanning techniques to measure the road environment.
Modelling software is used to build a detailed Virtual' road surface which precisely reflects the actual geometry of the road. Such techniques are typically used in vehicle dynamics and vehicle impact simulations.
The use of computer simulation offers the advantage of a 3D visual presentation of analysis results. Such presentations have provided assistance to witnesses giving evidence, allowed incident scenarios to be recreated and can significantly assist in the understanding of the evidence by the Courts and/or lay persons.
