Most recently TRL has contributed to the development of the Africa Community Access Programme (AFCAP), which is designed to provide advice and undertake research to facilitate the delivery of safe and sustainable access for poor communities in Africa. It will be based around a portfolio of research, demonstration, advisory and training projects. The outputs will feed directly into regional and national rural transport policies and strategies for poverty reduction.
TRL has already begun undertaking some research projects under the AFCAP programme, including the provision of targeted interventions on low-volume roads in Mozambique for the Mozambican National Roads Administration (ANE) to support them in the effective, efficient and sustainable delivery of its rural road programme.
