Qatar Science & Technology Park Opening

TRL celebrated the official opening of the Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP) in 2009
The inauguration took place in the presence of His Highness The Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani and Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned. In all some 1200 guests attended the opening.
TRL is a member organisation of the QSTP, with an office located within the complex. As such, TRL took part in a special exhibition for the opening and demonstrated a range of innovative research work and the use of new technologies in transport through a specially commissioned presentation. Initially, TRL's focus at QSTP will be on:
- Road technology
- Transport asset management
- Intelligent transport systems and traffic management
- Road safety strategy, to help reduce casualties
- Sustainable development
- Resource management and recycling
The QSTP is part of Qatar Foundation's Education City and comprises 45,000 m2 of office and laboratory space. Mike Head, TRL's Commercial Director attended the opening celebrations and commented: "Being in close proximity with like-minded businesses and local universities provides the ideal surroundings for a company such as TRL in Qatar. We will be working to create collaborative opportunities and developing technologies through research and proof of concept studies."
Mike Head went on say, "Our aim is to undertake a range of these activities, delivering innovative solutions, sharing and transferring knowledge, and, in the process, helping Qatar to be at the centre of scientific excellence and recognised as an international hub for research, innovation and entrepreneurship."
