Autonomous Transport: an IET Transport Sector Insight

Date: 30/7/2013

Dr Alan Stevens, TRL’s Chief Scientist and Research Director Transportation and recently elected Vice Chair of ITS-UK, has explored the technologies being road-tested to enable drivers to take their eyes off the road and their hands off the steering wheel in the second of a series of IET Transport Sector Insights on autonomous transport.

The article can be found here.

TRL has long had an interest in the concept of autonomous vehicles, conducting research as early as 1962 on its test track. Currently, TRL is investigating and evaluating what is needed for the successful deployment of increasingly intelligent vehicles from various perspectives, including those of the driver and the road network operator.
