TRL has a long history of involvement in road pricing schemes dating back to early work on the first London proposal in the 1970s. Our involvement with road pricing research and consultancy has brought TRL experts into regular contact with the main UK stakeholders for road pricing programmes. |
We've provided technical advice, research and technology testing services to government clients (the Department for Transport, Transport for London, European bodies) and have worked closely with many of the major suppliers of road pricing technology solutions.
Using our test track facilities and vehicle-based trials, we've undertaken an extensive research programme to develop understanding of the full range of potential impacts of road pricing systems. We have proven expertise in survey methodology design, implementation, analysis and reporting, trials design, test track operations as well as technology testing, including issues relating to tag and beacon technology.
Specialist skills and knowledge in road pricing technologies include ANPR, DSRC and GNSS, digital mapping, human-machine interfaces (HMIs), enforcement, vehicle classification, safety and ergonomics of in-car devices, simulation modelling, highways design and engineering.
