Pedestrian Impactors
TRL's pedestrian impactors, the lower legform impactor and the upper legform impactor are used to test cars to determine the cars' potential to cause injury when they impact into pedestrians. |

The impactors are fired into a stationary car at speeds up to 40 km/h and are used for vehicle safety research, vehicle development, consumer information and as type approval tools.
The original pedestrian test methods were developed by European working groups European Enhanced Vehicle-safety Committee (EEVC) WG10 and WG17. The European Union uses them in its type approval Regulation EC 631/2009 and they comply with the requirements of the Global Technical Regulation (GTR) No. 9 developed by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). Several consumer information organisations perform pedestrian testing and the impactors are fully compliant with Euro NCAP, ANCAP (Australasian) and K-NCAP (Korea).
