GIS in Transport Update (2005-2007)

This issue of Current Topics includes over 70 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on the numerous transport applications of Geographical Information Systems (GIS). These systems, often interlaced with existing databases, are now being used for decision support in a wide range of transport planning activities. Examples and case studies of the applications abstracted here include: GIS in traffic monitoring, network analysis, freight transport distribution, accidents analysis, public transport route planning, pedestrian studies, highway design and highway maintenance management. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 2005 and 2007. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database.
