Aesthetics of transport structures (1991-1998)

This issue of Current Topics includes over 60 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on the aesthetics of transport structures such as bridges, motorways and urban streets. Abstracts are included giving case studies of designs which are good and bad examples of structures which should be integrated harmoniously with their surroundings. Other articles discuss the interaction between engineering and architecture, and the contributions made to aesthetic design by light and shade, colour and texture, form and function, materials, shape and setting. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1991 and 1998. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Road Research Documentation (IRRD) database.
