Vehicle Design for Disabled People Update (2000-2006)


This issue of Current Topics includes 60 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on the design and adaptation of buses, trains, coaches, cars, taxis and other transport structures, so that they are easily accessible to people with disabilities. Abstract are included on many projects and schemes in the UK, Europe and USA. Among the subjects covered are legislative changes, low floor / wide entrance buses, securing of wheelchairs in public service vehicles, design of passenger information, and in-vehicle safety issues. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 2000 and 2006. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database.
