A review of techniques for scaling subjective judgements

This report reviews techniques and problems associated with the scaling of subjective judgements. Although this review is the preliminary investigation of a programme of work at trrl in which people's preferences for scenes (using photographs) will be examined, the arguments put forward for different scales are relevant to other areas of environmental assessment which employ rating scales.(a)
