Design and assessment of one-way prestressed bridge slabs. Volume 1: Experimental results

This document described the construction and testing of two 1:3.5 scale models of skew, composite construction bridge decks. Analysis of the bridge deck was described in a second volume (Contractor Report CR74), (see IRRD 813193). The brief for the entire study was: 1) To review current methods for designing and assessing the response of skewed bridge slabs prestressed in one direction; 2) To develop a non-linear finite element program to analyse designs based on as constructed drawings; 3) To construct and test, at least two, approximately one-fifth scale models of typical bridges, with repeated application of multiple live load patterns followed by loading to failure. At least one model was to be of composite construction with pre-case prestressed beams; 4) To use the information produced from a study of the results of the above sections: (i) to make recommendations for design and assessment procedures for one-way prestressed slabs; and (ii) to make recommendations for procedures for use in non-linear analysis of prestressed and reinforced concrete slabs. The contents of volume 1 were as follows: Composite concrete slab bridges; Design and testing of model bridge deck 1; and Design and testing of model bridge deck 2.
