standards of site practice - implications for innovation in the design and construction of buried pipelines

this paper provides a brief description of some of the results of research undertaken by the trrl aimed at attempting to ascertain (1) the differences which exist between present theoretical design assumptions and the realities of site practice, (2) the structural consequences of typical on-site departures from the design assumptions and specifications, (3) the cost benefits or penalties likely to be incurred by any modification of the current methods of design, specification and construction. this work is to provide a basis for innovation and improvement in the present methods used in the design and construction of buried pipelines.
