The use of mobile phones while driving: a review

This paper is concerned with the effects of drivers using mobile telephones while driving. Experimental studies are reviewed along with epidemiological and specific studies of traffic accident reports. The review concentrates particularly on the comparison of hand-held and hands-free equipment and on relating the distraction of in-vehicle telephones to other in-vehicle devices and activities associated with driving. An annotated bibliography covering work over the last 25 years is provided.
