Surveys of coaches in London summer 1986

This report analyses surveys of non London Buses Limited buses and coaches in 1986. Passenger transport vehicles with more than 12 seats were recorded as they crossed the Central London cordon inbound in the 0700-1000 hour period, outbound in the 1600-1900 hour period, all day in both directions at the five busiest cordon points, and at eight Central area sites for two hour periods in between the commuter rush hours. The study was commissioned by the Department of Transport's Transport and Road Research Laboratory as a continuation of its programme to monitor the levels of coach traffic in London generally and to assess changes in the principal sectors of coach and bus activity as a result of new legislation. The analysis breaks down the observations of coaches in terms of size of vehicle, passenger type, vehicle ownership, classification of service, and service style, and includes profiles of the pattern of coaches crossing the Central London cordon.
