Dynamic Plan Generation (DPG)

TRL has developed the core of an automatic, rule-based diversion plan generation system for the Highways Agency. The DPG system is designed to run in parallel with a CONTRAM model of the road network. The system has been created primarily for use on inter-urban networks, although it could also be used for urban traffic management. DPG can be used to help generate and maintain fixed diversion plan libraries and can also be used in real time to generate diversion plans for immediate implementation. The current DPG system has proved the concept that automatic plan generation is possible.
