Carbon Aware Cities: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach to Low Carbon Transport Systems

Date: 27/9/2011

CATCH Final Conference
Tuesday 13 December 2011
University of West of England, Bristol, UK

TRL has been involved in a major EU 7th Framework project known as CATCH, which has conducted ground-breaking research into how information about climate change and transport should be communicated to encourage the transition to a low carbon system. This requires a radical shift in how we move; the introduction of new technology and importantly, how we behave as individuals and how we plan and measure transport interventions.

As part of this project, TRL has been conducting interviews and focus groups and dissemination events. In addition, we have been providing project advice based on our European and international experience in the fields of sustainable transport and climate change policy. Crucially, we have been maintaining the link between the implications of this project that predominantly focuses on transport policy on a city level, with the international policy arena, particularly in regard to climate change.

As this final CATCH conference, TRL's Heather Allen, Sustainable Transport Director and Anne Binstead, Senior Consultant, Transport and Environmental Policy will be talking about climate change and transport: the need for action on an international level.

In a separate session, Derek Palmer, Head of Sustainable Transport Planning, TRL, will give the reasons as to why investing in low carbon transport is the only sensible option.
