FUTURENET results to be disseminated

Date: 20/2/2013

TRL has been a partner in FUTURENET a 3.5 year multi-disciplinary project led by the University of Birmingham, with other partners from Loughborough and Nottingham Universities, HR Wallingford and the British Geological Survey.

The project has looked to develop quantitative methods for the evaluation of resilience to extreme weather events and climate change in the UK transport network. These developments have the potential to transform the way in which UK transport infrastructure is planned, delivered, maintained and developed. FUTURENET has actively involved a wide stakeholder group which has included Network Rail, the Highways Agency, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and consultants, WSP.

As part of Climate Week 2013 on Monday 4th March, the consortium of leading UK researchers will be presenting these developments and hosting a discussion forum on how these inform current and future infrastructure provision. The event is chaired by Professor Roderick A Smith, FREng., ScD., FIMechE, Chief Scientific Adviser, Department for Transport and former President of the IMechE and will be held at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in London beginning at 4.00 pm. It will be followed by a drinks reception at 6.00 pm.

This event has been designed to provide senior policy makers and practitioners with a strategic overview of the project findings to help them to deliver resilient transport systems into the future.
