MOVA goes from strength to strength

Date: 20/3/2013

Busy times at TRL Software, made busier with MOVA continuing to go from strength to strength.

TRL Software has confirmed that Siemens MOVA 7 integration has passed the mandatory tests and recommendation has been given from TRL to the Highways Agency for Type Approval.

Siemens now joins Telent who passed the mandatory tests back in November 2012.

Siemens will launch MOVA 7 as an integral part of the new ST950 traffic controller which is to be unveiled at Traffex in April.

TRL has continued to develop MOVA in line with customer needs and the product's strategy. The new features of MOVA 7 fall into three categories:

  • Traffic Management Act (TMA) logs. These have been designed to help Network Managers observe and review junction operation, allowing problems to be identified more easily and allowing analysis of improvements to be made.Extension of the measurement of saturation flow, a feature first made available in MOVA 6. In MOVA 6 the information was available in a log and the engineer could use the information to improve MOVA operation. In MOVA 7 a statistical analysis is carried out on the data and there is the option to feed statistically robust values back to the working configuration data, further improving MOVA performance.Changes to the messages to improve the layout and provide fuller information and improvement to the way CANDET (the bus priority cancel detector) behaves.
  • To support the rollout of MOVA 7 installations, TRL has released MOVA Tools. MOVA Tools is the new name for MOVA Setup, and since its release at Christmas 2012, has inspired a great reaction with over 200 downloads achieved already.
  • The new version is fully compatible with MOVA versions 2.9-7.0 and allows import from and export to .MSD, .DT and .D* file formats.

The look and feel is now similar to that used by the current versions of TRANSYT, ARCADY and PICADY.  This brings a number of advantages such as the ability to save data at any point; undo/redo changes; copy and paste data; view custom grids of data; and many more. Setting up and checking MOVA files is made much easier with the addition of a schematic diagram that includes depictions of links, lanes and the various types of MOVA detectors.

Multiple MOVA controllers can be handled within a single file and the setting up of time-of-day data plans has been made easier to use.
