Producer FAQ

Note that Producers may now apply to be part of the pilot exercise.
What is Certification?
Certification demonstrates that a company is capable of producing Tyre Derived Rubber Material products to the standards required in PAS 107 and the Quality Protocol. It is issued following a periodic independent audit.
Why obtain Certification?
There are a variety of reasons:
- Certification can increase customer confidence in your products
- Without Certification, any items produced from used tyres are classified as a waste and thus require waste permits for storage and transport in England and Wales - both for producers and consumers. Certification removes the necessity for such waste permits as any item produced within the scope of the Certification is technically a product (rather than a waste)
What is the value of Certification?
Certification can add value to your company in a number of ways:
- Customers and specifiers of Tyre Derived Rubber Material products are often responsible for specifying the quality of products they purchase - purchasing certified products can demonstrate this responsibility, and thus influence their choice of supplier and the value of product
- The use of the Tyre Derived Rubber Material Certification Mark can improve the saleability of products
- Increased customer/specifier confidence from a certified Tyre Derived Rubber Material industry can positively impact upon the market for the product
How can I obtain Certification?
To obtain Certification a manufacturer must undertake the following steps:
- Ensure your company procedures incorporate the requirements of:
a) PAS107:2007 Specification for the manufacture and storage of size reduced tyre materials
b) Quality Protocol - End of waste criteria for the production and use of tyre-derived rubber materials
You may choose to use a consultant to assist. Please note that Certification Bodies are unable to offer a consultancy service.
- Apply to an accredited Certification Body
- Submit to audit (there will be fees payable for this)
