City Blueprints and Low Carbon Vehicles

As part of the process of identifying technology pathways to the future, Shell has engaged with thought-leaders from business, academia and journalism to address the forces driving change in our global society and to consider the implications of, and responses to, these changes. One issue that has global significance is transport technology and the move to “sustainable mobility”.

Following from TRL’s involvement in Shell’s Technology Futures programme, Shell asked TRL to lead a project on “city blueprints” that brought together experts from across TRL working alongside relevant Shell experts to address issues associated with sustainable mobility in cities.

TRL designed a series of workshops to address these issues, focussing on the key topics of:

  • Lower emissions from vehicles
  • Better use of the car
  • Alternatives to the car

The inter-action and integration of these issues was then evaluated.
