Policy Development, Implementation and Evaluation
Staff at TRL have been involved with the development of policies for many different types of organisations. By working with you we can develop a policy that fits into your organisation's business structure and safety culture. |

After policy development, TRL can assist with implementation. Achieving ‘buy-in' from company leaders and employees can be dependent on a number of factors, including how new policies are communicated throughout the company. TRL has experience in applying principles from psychology to the communication of policies that require behaviour change from people in an organisation, to maximise the chances of smooth roll-out. In addition, TRL always builds an evaluation plan into any policy, so that the intended outcomes of the policy can be measured and success quantified.
One example of TRL's work in this area is helping companies implement and evaluate changes in mobile phone policies related to hands-free mobile phone use when driving for business. In one case TRL assisted a large company with the implementation of a policy to ban hands-free mobile phone use, by providing a compelling synthesis of the evidence, and by helping with the development of effective communication messages; in addition, a list of prepared answers to likely ‘counter-arguments' was provided, tailored to the company. In another case TRL assisted with implementation of a hands-free mobile-phone ban, and also helped measure the impact of the policy change on staff attitudes towards hands-free mobile phone use. Data gathered during the evaluation was used to improve the communication and delivery of the policy throughout the company.
