The centre is a significant step forward and is the first purpose built single site ITS and Telematics test track in Europe, connecting vehicles, highways and telecommunications through two private stand alone fully integrated and independent communications systems (GSM and WiFi). The centre enables the telecommunications, automotive and electronic industries, as well as highway authorities and operators, to develop, test, demonstrate and validate future transport technologies in a safe, highly controlled environment, reproducing numerous telematics scenarios essential to the development of ITS products and innovation.

InnovITS ADVANCE features include:

• 120,000 sq m facility
• 2.06km outer circumference
• Road layouts to simulate an urban driving environment including junctions, intersections, traffic calming and parking for on board set up and review
• Bi-directional traffic flow with 3.65m wide lanes
• Generic lane markings allowing for left and right hand drive testing
• Traffic lights will feature at primary intersections with the flexibility to accommodate vehicle actuated signals at other junctions
• Flexible power access points across the ADVANCE facility
