TRL Collaborates with IQTC in China
TRL and iqtc (Guangdong Inspection and Quarantine Technology Center) have signed an important MOU that has established the foundations to develop a vehicle safety laboratory in China. The MOU was signed by TRL’s General Manager, Ian Graham and Mr.Liu Zhongyong, Director of iqtc, during a recent visit to TRL by iqtc members of staff. |

The immediate focus is to collaborate on providing a safer environment for children when travelling in vehicles, offering services of product testing and certification of child restraint systems for manufacturers and organisations who import and export products to and from China. TRL and iqtc have developed an independent testing facility, based in China, to provide a full range of child restraint testing services.
iqtc, a government owned organisation located in the Chinese province of Guangdong, has responsibility for the safety and performance of a wide variety of products entering and leaving the Chinese market. TRL, through its Child Safety Centre, provide an extensive range of testing and consultancy services derived from its long history in the research and development of regulation and testing protocols.
The testing services will go hand in hand with a TRL/iqtc campaign to provide safety information to consumers about the proper use of child restraints.
Currently, around 90% of children travelling in vehicles in China are not restrained in a suitable child restraint system and every year more than 18,000 children under the age of 14 die as a result of a road traffic accident. A new compulsory regulation for child restraint systems will be introduced and implemented soon in China, and as the country is the largest producer of child restraint systems in the world, iqtc and TRL are taking a leading role to provide a safer world for children.
