15-year transport plan unveiled in Bradford

Date: 7/6/2011
Traffic congestion and road safety are both issues set to be tackled in Bradford, with the local authority unveiling its 15-year transport blueprint.According to the Yorkshire Post, a Local Implementation Plan has been produced by the council to add more of a community focus to the earlier West Yorkshire Local Transport Plan.
And it is not only traffic jams and safety issues that are on the agenda, but also the creation of new jobs and the regeneration of communities.
Under the proposals, the council hopes to make it easier for people to use sustainable options in order to access amenities and services.
In addition, it will attempt to reduce harmful emissions, with the report noting: "The West Yorkshire Local Transport Plan Strategy and the Bradford Local Implementation Plan contain a number of initiatives aimed at managing carbon emissions within the context of the predicted growth in the economy."
Bradford Council's Executive Member for Environment and Sustainability Ghazanfer Khaliq said the city has challenges it will need to face in the future - such as lowering carbon output - and an "excellent" transport system will help it to do this.
The West Yorkshire Local Transport Plan Partnership has currently made two bids for a share of the government's Local Sustainable Transport Fund, including an initiative that would bring greener travel options to those living in the Dales.
