2012 'will see thousands of electric cars on roads'

Date: 7/1/2011
Electric vehicles will continue to infiltrate the automobile market and by 2012 there could be thousands of such cars on the UK's roads, according to one sector commentator.Dr Ben Lane from nextgreencar.com explains that fuel efficiency is becoming an increasingly important consideration for car buyers as petrol and diesel prices continue to rise.
"The most you can save is by using electric vehicles, so if they are ever going to make it, now is the time," he claims.
In addition, the quality of electric vehicles that have been available in the past year has also been high, Dr Lane points out, adding that the more people are exposed to this sort of car, the more their popularity will increase.
His comments follow a report from KPMG, which revealed that over 90 per cent of executives within the motor industry believe investment in battery electric power, hybrid systems or hydrogen fuel-cell technologies will be a priority over the next five years.
