£30 million electric car infrastructure grant announced

Date: 20/11/2009
The Department for Transport has earmarked a £30 million grant for distribution to private sector companies that want to develop an electric car infrastructure.
Plugged-In Places is an initiative designed to develop between three and six UK cities with the infrastructure necessary to use electric car technology.
Meanwhile, the government intends that successful grant recipients match the government investment into the UK grid.
Government investment into encouraging development of ultra-low emissions vehicles has topped £400 million, according to transport secretary Andrew Adonis.
Our aim is for electric and low carbon cars to be an everyday feature of life on the UKs roads in less than five years, explained Lord Adonis.
