A badly-fitted car seat 'could be fatal'

Date: 7/9/2010

Ensuring a car seat is installed properly could save a child's life, a safety expert has claimed.

Alan Kennedy, Chair of Road Safety GB, was commenting on the launch of the organisation's drive to inform parents about the dangers of ill-fitted seats.

The Good Egg Campaign aims to ensure youngsters are properly restrained during car journeys by running workshops and distributing guides on how to fit safety seats.

Mr Kennedy commented: "Children and infants are our most vulnerable road users and an ill-fitted car seat can mean the difference between life and death."

Sir Arnold Clark, Chairman and Chief Executive of Arnold Clark Automobiles, said the company is pleased to sponsor the scheme.

Parents often do not realise that different cars require varying types of safety seats, he continued.

A study by Gocompare.com recently reported in the Daily Mirror revealed a third of parents are unaware of the correct laws on car restraints for children.
