A9 traffic-easing scheme launched

Date: 8/3/2010
A £3 million project has started on the A9 in Auchterarder, Scotland, according to Transport Scotland. The new initiative is planned to accommodate traffic from a new local housing development to be built in the area.
The changes will involve a new roundabout to the south of the A9 overbridge, to be built at the A9's junction with the A823.
A new southbound slip road on to the A9 is also planned.
These modifications will give motorists safer access to the A9 and it is hoped they will bring job opportunities to the area.
Access to new housing in Gleaneagles will also be created.
According to Transport Scotland, its A9 Route Action Plan identified the Loaninghead junction as a suitable place for improvements, as well as being highlighted in a plan in conjunction with housing developers, Perth and Kinross Council and a community steering group.
Cabinet secretary John Swinney is to cut the turf to mark the beginning of the scheme.
The A77 at Burnside is also to benefit from an upgrade scheme.
