Aberdeen 'ahead of the field' on electric vehicles

Date: 2/9/2010
Electric-vehicle charging points have been built in Aberdeen in a bid to promote the use of alternative fuels.Aberdeen City Council Leader John Stewart suggested the city is leading the way for environmental measures in Scotland after eight points were installed at two locations, according to the Press and Journal.
The local authority has set up charging stations at the council's headquarters and a multi-storey car park, while it has plans to open another next year.
Mr Stewart said: "The council has an enviable record across the board on environmental measures and this is just one example of how we are ahead of the field in Scotland."
He also noted the importance of alternative fuels.
Alison McInnes, a Liberal Democrat Transport Spokeswoman, approved of the steps taken by the city but added it is "disappointing" so few councils are following its lead.
A recent survey by motoring website Parker's found more than two-thirds of Britons would not buy an electric car.
