Abu Dhabi to invest in transport infrastructure

Date: 24/11/2009
Abu Dhabi is planning to build a new ground transportation framework over the next five years as part of a transport plan designed to support the region "after oil".
The transport infrastructure upgrade is expected to cost Dh50 billion (£8.2 billion) by 2030 and will upgrade the Emirates[change curley to straight] transport infrastructure in what could be a post-oil economy.
Abu Dhabi officials report that they plan to learn from the world's eminent bridge, motorway and rail design for inspiration, according to a UAE National report.
A consultant for the project said that by 2015, 19 road and bridge projects are scheduled to be finished, according to a Abu Dhabi government official speaking at the Bridges Middle East conference this weekend.
The project will allegedly also connect the Mid-Island Parkway with a motorway between Reem Island, Abu Dhabi Island and the mainland Capital District.
