Abu Dhabi transport going electric

Date: 22/1/2010
Abu Dhabi is set to become a pioneer in the field of all-electric transport, with a raft of battery-powered vehiclesdue to be released on the market in the next five years, while public transport will also go all-electric.
The Tourism Development and Investment Company has this week announced that Sir Bani Yas island will be the first to benefit from an all-electric zero-emission bus transport service that is set to be rolled out across the emirate.
Elsewhere, transport expert Anil Khurana told Gulf News that environmentally conscious commuters in the UAE capital will soon be able to access a diverse market of all-electric vehicles as battery price points are set to tumble in the next few years.
"In five to ten years private parking and fleet management will be the basis of a proper [electric vehicle] infrastructure. That's why we need public domain battery chargers and a proper identification policy," he told the news provider.
