Access to railway stations to be improved under new guidance

Date: 19/7/2013
New guidance has been launched today (July 19th) by Transport Minister Norman Baker to try to improve the public’s access to railway stations by bus, bike and foot.Created in collaboration between (ATOC) the Association of Train Operating Companies, Transport Research Laboratory and the Rail Safety and Standards Board, it follows a successful pilot at 30 stations across the UK.
Assessments of the pilot influenced the guidance and it has overhauled the way in which travel patterns are analysed.
“Making door-to-door journeys easier is important to the Coalition Government – people do not just want to know what times their train will run, they want to know how they are going to get to and from the station,” said Mr Baker.
David Mapp, Commercial Director at ATOC, has said that it is good news for passengers, helping them get to their local stations with greater ease, particularly at a time when rail is booming.
