ACFO details accessibility of sustainable mobility options

Date: 9/8/2011

A guide has been launched to help the UK's premier organisations when it comes to making decisions about managing their fleets.

The Association of Car Fleet Operators (ACFO) has published the handbook - From A to B: The ACFO Guide to Journey Planning - for use when drawing up travel policies.

It claims that the document details just how sustainable the current transport options available to businesses are.

ACFO Chairman Julie Jenner says: "The opportunities for employers to implement a diverse, multi-faceted, sustainable mobility plan and display corporate social responsibility have never been greater."

She adds that the central factor in the decision-making process when it comes to travel should be how to reduce costs, carbon emissions and risk.

To do this it is important for employers to have all the information they require so that they can make the best choice on whether to rely on a car, plane or train to get around.

Other decisions include weighing up options such as a company car, hired automobile or vehicle share scheme, deciding whether to walk or cycle for short journeys or using technological initiatives, such as tele-conferencing.

In May, ACFO hosted its conference and annual general meeting, which was judged as a success and where the guide was originally unveiled to attendees.
