AfDB approves loans for Tanzanian road upgrades

A $225.31 million (£142 million) loan has been approved by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to upgrade roads in Tanzania.The 188km Dodoma-Babati route and the Tunduru-Mangaka-Mtambaswala road, which is 202km long, will both be improved using the cash.
East African Business Week noted both routes are an important part of the country's transport infrastructure, as they are links on major corridors on the continent.
They connect to the Tanzania trunk road network, the Cape to Cairo Trans-Africa Highway and the East African Community Trunk Road Network, among others.
Additional money for the initiative will be provided by the Tanzanian government and the Japan International Co-operation Agency.
Funding will also support the development of organisations on the mainland and Zanzibar, such as the Tanzania National Roads Agency and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Communications in Zanzibar.
The AfDB was founded in 1964 and aims to promote sustainable growth in African through the financing of projects such as this.
