Arsenal reserve team encouraged to stay safe

Date: 7/5/2010

Young football players in the reserve team at Arsenal Football Club will be learning new driving skills to help keep them safe when they are behind the wheel.

Citroen is behind the 'How to Take Corners' scheme, which they anticipate will increase driver safety among young male motorists.

The car manufacturer's communication director Marc Raven remarked: "We hope that the driving programme has helped focus their minds on the dangers of the road."

Figures show that men aged between 17-24 are involved in 25 per cent of all collisions that lead to injury or even death.

That is despite the fact that the age range only makes up nine per cent of the UK's driving population.

Reserve team coach at the club Neil Banfield said it is the first time youngsters have been educated on driving safely and it is something they would like to make a regular feature.

Road charity Brake recently launched a scheme aimed at young people learning to drive, which involves instructors giving out advice and learning resources to raise awareness of road safety issues.
