BC Transport updates fleet with green vehicles

Date: 9/1/2013

Haulage firm BC Transport has upgraded its fleet of vehicles with green alternatives in a bid to improve its fuel efficiency.

The company, which is based in Bollington, Cheshire, took receipt of four new Renault tractor units, each fitted with a Euro 5 engine.

Nationwide deliveries will be carried out using the vehicles, which will replace older units that are less fuel efficient.

Adam Chadwick, Fleet Director at BC Transport, said: "We have been using the new vehicles for around two months and we can already see the difference they are making in terms of mpg and fuel consumption.

"As well as saving costs and helping us to be 'greener', these trucks also provide a more comfortable environment for our drivers, and while out on the road they represent our company as a forward-thinking modern business."

The firm has been in business for 48 years, but in 2001 became a founding member of Palletforce, a distribution network of hauliers across the UK.

By working in coordination with each other, hauliers reduce the number of lorries on the road and also the amount of empty space inside them, making for a much more efficient system.

Chris Goodwin, Managing Director of BC Transport, said: "Being a member of Palletforce has helped us to provide a national and European delivery service for our customers at a competitive price.

"We have been able to reduce our fleet size but increase the number of deliveries being made due to the ability to work together with other Palletforce members."

BC Transport is not the only fleet operator which is trying to increase fuel efficiency, as it makes sense both for business and the environment.

As well as investing in new vehicles, training drivers in the best methods to reduce fuel consumption and limiting speeds can also be effective.

Some haulage firms are even fitting telematics technology into drivers' cabs in order to monitor the way they drive and then offering sessions to help them improve.
