Beer festival organisers encourage responsible drinking

Date: 3/6/2010
Organisers at the Aberdeen and North-east Beer Festival will be encouraging responsible drinking among visitors.Around 3,500 individuals are expected to attend the event and Campaign for Real Ale will be launching an operation in conjunction with local police to warn people of the dangers of drink-driving.
Festival organiser Richard Jones said they will print messages onto commemorative glasses.
"We are also dedicated to promoting responsible drinking and in particular the 'don't drink and drive' message", he remarked.
Mr Jones added Grampian Police have backed the scheme and feel the idea is a simple, yet creative way of reminding citizens of the perils of consuming alcohol before getting behind the wheel.
Earlier this week, police in Hull initiated a scheme to clamp down on football fans who drive after consuming alcohol during the Fifa World Cup.
Officers will wait outside bars and clubs to catch those trying to drive home after watching games, the Hull Daily Mail reported.
