Bestival sustainability drive 'focuses on green transport'

Date: 4/11/2011

Bestival has taken steps to make its transport provisions greener as part of its commitment to sustainability, an official has claimed.

Duncan Turner, Environmental Manager at the music festival, has affirmed the event's commitment to the environment and stated that it attempts to lower its impact on a year-by-year basis, as well as educating attendees about the steps they can take to lower their carbon footprints.

He identified three key areas where the organisation has focused its efforts, which include transport, waste and recycling.

"In 2011, we had a bespoke Big Green Coach service picking up from 21 locations across the UK and delivering festival-goers direct to the festival site, including ferry travel," he explained.

Mr Turner added that the organisers have also worked to encourage people to use public transport, to car share and it has launched a lift share initiative designed to encourage people to share cars.

Tony Davis, Managing Director of Dovetail Systems, recently emphasised the commercial benefits of reducing the number of vehicles and journeys used to transport goods and services, something that is becoming an increasing priority for fleet managers.
