Bike tyre safety campaign approaching

Date: 16/3/2010

Ahead of April's Bike Tyre Safety Month, campaign organisation TyreSafe is reminding motorcyclists of the importance of checking tyres, particularly if a bike has been stored over the winter months.

Chairman of the organisation Stuart Jackson says that many riders will take their motorcycles out for their first ride of the year in April and that before doing this, it is important that riders have their machines checked over.

"After several months or being stood still, it is vitally important that these riders have their tyres' condition, pressure and tread depth checked properly to ensure they remain safe on the road," says Mr Jackson.

He adds that he hopes the campaign will have the support of dealers, with them offering free safety checks and advice for riders.

Tyres can be damaged over the winter months if a motorcycle is not stored correctly, the organisation warns, noting that cracking or rubber deterioration could make the tyres unsafe or illegal.

Earlier this month, the organisation urged consumers thinking of changing run-flat tyres to traditional tyres to be aware of the effect such a change could have on a car's handling.ADNFCR-2726-ID-19671245-ADNFCR
