Bikers urged to stay safe on roads during motoring event

Date: 9/8/2011

One of the biggest events on the motorcycling calendar will take place this weekend and bikers are being urged to take care on the roads as a result.

This year's Bulldog Bash kicks off on August 11th and lasts until August 14th. It will be held at the Shakespeare County Raceway at Long Marston Airfield.

Speaking to the BBC, Phil Moore, Road Safety Officer with Warwickshire Police, said: "We've put some posters out to bring to the bikers' attention that there are other road users and it's just trying to get each group to each be aware of [the] other and work together."

The police force has launched a motorcycle safety campaign after it was revealed that there have been five fatalities in Warwickshire this year involving a biker - three more than in 2010.

Assistant Chief Constable Neil Brunton noted that no permanent road closures are currently planned near the venue during the event.

However, he added that if the occasion called for it, traffic would be temporarily diverted - albeit with as little disruption as possible.
