Blackwall Tunnel improvements 'will be finished six months early'

Refurbishment works on the northbound Blackwall Tunnel are on target to be completed six months ahead of schedule, Transport for London (TfL) has announced.The £70 million upgrade, which was initially predicted to take three years to execute, will be finished before the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Garrett Emmerson, Chief Operating Officer for London Streets at TfL, said: "The teams carrying out and managing the refurbishment of the northbound Blackwall Tunnel have made exceptionally good progress."
He added the organisation remains dedicated to completing the works in as little time and with as few disruptions for motorists as possible.
Furthermore, mayor Boris Johnson's Transport Adviser Kulveer Ranger described the refurbishments as "essential" for road users' safety.
TfL has now cancelled the previously-advertised weekend closure of the tunnel for September 10th - 13th.
Recently, the Highways Agency announced a 14-week project to reduce problems caused by congestion on the M5 is set to get underway.
