Boris Johnson commended for electric vehicle work

Boris Johnson's work promoting electric vehicles has seen him honoured with an award.The Mayor of London received the Motor Industry Public Affairs Association's (MIPAA) annual chairman's award, which is given to those who have made an outstanding contribution to public relations.
Chairman of MIPAA Al Clarke praised Mr Johnson's commitment to raising the profile of electric vehicles and explaining the benefits they can have in modern cities.
"His pioneering and practical approach has boosted interest in this exciting period in electric vehicle motoring and enabled other cities to gain from London's lead," Mr Clarke continued.
The accolade was accepted on behalf of Mr Johnson by his Director of Environment Kulveer Ranger, who pointed out the capital is set to have 1,300 charge points in place by 2013.
This follows the publication of data by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, which revealed there was an increase in registrations of alternatively-fuelled vehicles in November as they accounted for 1.6 per cent of the market share.
