Boris Johnson reveals third and fourth New Bus for London routes

Date: 7/8/2013
Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, has announced the third and fourth routes to be serviced by the iconic New Bus for London scheme will be the 9 and 390.The 9 runs between Hammersmith and Aldwych, via Olympia, Kensington, Knightsbridge, Hyde Park Corner, Green Park Piccadilly, Pall Mall and Trafalgar Square.
Both it and the 390, which runs 24-hours a day between Notting Hill Gate and Archway, will be converted by the end of the year, following in the footsteps of routes 24 and 11.
According to (TfL) Transport for London, new buses will appear on route 9 in October, with 22 vehicles in service during peak hours, transporting the 17,000 people that travel on it each day.
Buses on both of the designated routes will operate with the rear door open and a conductor on the rear platform for the majority of the day.
Mr Johnson explained that the new routes will continue to build the momentum of the New Bus project in the capital.
Leon Daniels, TfL's Managing Director of Surface Transport, said: "The 600 New Bus for London vehicles entering passenger service over the next few years will bolster what is already the largest fleet of hybrid buses in Europe."
