Bradford to benefit from £1bn fund to address traffic problems

Bradford to benefit from £1bn fund to address traffic problems

Date: 25/7/2013

Bradford is set to be one of the biggest winners from a £1 billion fund to improve rail and road schemes, a report from the Telegraph and Argus has revealed.

The money is to be spread across West Yorkshire and York, but Bradford is to get 12 schemes that will affect the district, only one behind Leeds with 13.

When deciding the scheme, Councillor Val Slater, who is an executive member for transport at Bradford Council, explained to the publication that each project was chosen to assist disadvantaged areas and improve access to jobs.

"It gives us a chance to tackle some of the long-standing traffic issues that we know about, but we haven’t had the money, on our own, to sort out," she said.

Projects include revamps to Bradford Interchange and Bradford Forster Square, the widening of Tong Street and improvements to the Bradford-Shipley corridor.

This comes after news this week revealed that Bradford should be getting a new fast train service to London as part of the HS2 project.ADNFCR-2726-ID-801616852-ADNFCR
