Brighton 'set to double number of electric car chargers'

Date: 25/10/2010
Brighton will see its number of electric vehicle charging points doubled under new plans announced by its local authority. The Argus reports Brighton and Hove City Council will install another four stations at strategic locations in the area.
There are currently two charging points in Bartholomews and two in Ditchling Road, while the additional stations are planned for Withdean Road and Madeira Drive.
All of the points can be used by plug-in hybrid or electric cars, motorcycles or scooters.
The Guardian recently noted the future popularity of electric vehicles rests on there being a sufficient network of charging points to power them, as most of the cars have a battery range of less than 100 miles.
A government scheme to build 13,500 stations has yet to be confirmed, the news source observed, while there are several cities that "are vying to be the most friendly for electric cars", with London boasting several hundred and Brighton and Hove showing a commitment to the infrastructure.
