Bristol City Council opens consultation on community transport provision

Date: 21/2/2013
Bristol City Council has launched a consultation on proposed changes to community transport services in light of cuts to public funding. As Bristol 24-7 reports, the Council is looking to focus spending in certain areas to provide sufficient support to elderly residents who struggle to get around the city.
The existing networks involve a combination of door-to-door minibus services, community bus services and vehicle hire options for groups and individuals.
Under the new proposals, an area-based door-to-door facility would be offered to residents while a hire service for wheelchair and mobility aids would be available in the city centre.
"We all share a common aim to provide excellent services for the most vulnerable in the community," said Mayor George Ferguson.
The Mayor added that Bristol's ageing population has led to an "increasing demand for community transport and wheelchair and mobility aid hire services," with residents being invited to air their views via the consultation which runs until May 15th.
