Brits 'saving money by ignoring vehicle faults'

Date: 6/6/2011
Just under one-fifth of UK motor owners have admitted to ignoring faults with their vehicles, rather than getting them repaired, in an attempt to save money.According to a poll carried out by YouGov on behalf of Admiral, 18 per cent of respondents have taken this course of action, while 15 per cent noted they have either reduced or stopped getting their car serviced.
Meanwhile, eight per cent of motorists have overlooked problems with their tyres as they do not believe they could afford to replace them.
Sue Longthorn, Admiral Managing Director, said: "It's a concern that some motorists are willing to drive around with tyres not in the very best of condition. This could cause more serious problems [in the] long term and could even cause them to have an accident."
The cost of fuel is also proving a concern to Britons, with 51 per cent revealing they are driving less due to the expense of keeping the tank full.
Research by Santander Credit Cards recently revealed that three-quarters of motorists are reducing their driving, with 62 per cent claiming the high costs involved as their main motivation for this decision.
