Bromley South station benefits from £4m investment

Date: 13/3/2013
Bromley South station in South-East London has been transformed as a result of more than £4 million worth of investment, with funding from Government programmes helping to support the project.Improvements included increasing the ease with which passengers can navigate the station - as well as building new waiting shelters, toilets and further developing the concourse. The main aim of the initiative was to enhance the overall travel experience.
Visiting the refurbished station, Rail Minister Norman Baker said that the transformation is indicative of the Government's dedication to making stations more accessible to the general public.
"Improvements like these make a real difference to those using the railways," he commented.
"Opening up access at stations and providing step-free routes can make a real difference to wheelchair users and others with limited mobility, as well as parents with buggies."
The Department for Transport is currently in the process of allocating funding worth £370 million through its access for all programme, designed to provide obstacle-free routes at more than 150 priority rail stations by 2015.
